The Award

The Sheikh Sultan Award is structured so that participants can decide their entry point to the award. There are three levels of the award programme participants can complete in; Bronze, Silver or Gold.

The Bronze Medal

Participants must complete two categories for the bronze medal throughout the award cycle:

Volunteering: 20 hours.

Adventure: 3 days & 2 nights continuously.

Categories of the Award

Adventure

A multi-day experience that is designed to challenge participants out of their comfort zone. Participants are required to build and sleep in a tent and complete at least one physical challenge per day.

– The adventure should be done under the supervision of an accredited organization and obtain a signed and stamped certificate from a UAE-based provider with the number of days completed.
– Participants are required to build and sleep in a tent.
– All nights of each camp must be completed consecutively, e.g. a Gold-level adventure camp cannot be divided into two excursions.
– At least one physical challenge is required per day.
– Cooking and bringing their own food for each participant during the camp is optional and not mandatory.

Adventure

Volunteering

Volunteering involves participants choosing to give their time to make a difference in the world. It is any activity that benefits the people, the community, the environment or animals. It is the act of helping a greater cause without getting paid.

– The volunteering activity should be done under the supervision of an accredited organisation or registered charity.
– Participants must obtain a signed and stamped certificate from a UAE-based provider with the number of hours completed.
– Volunteering hours do not have to be consecutive and can be in more than one area.
– Volunteering to organise events should directly benefit the community, the environment or animals.

Skills

This category allows participants to invest their time in acquiring a new skill that involves creativity and practical thinking. Each participant must select only one skill to learn or develop and complete all the required hours in that skill.

– All required hours must be completed in one skill only.

– There are two ways to apply for this category:
1) Learn the skill under the supervision of an accredited organization and obtain a signed and stamped certificate with the number of hours completed.

2) Acquire the skill through self-learning and documenting the process of acquiring it in a 5-10 minute video and passing an interview with the committee

Skills

Fitness & Wellbeing

Being physically active in a sport or fitness activity.

– Participants can choose an activity that they can complete alone or with a group of peers.
– All required hours must be completed in one sport only.
– This category must be completed under the supervision of an accredited organisation and obtain a signed and stamped certificate with the number of hours completed.

Terms and Conditions for Registration in the Sheikh Sultan Award for Celebrating the Spirit of Youth

1) The applicant must be between 13 and 18 years old as of the program launch date (1st September).
2) A valid copy of the Emirates ID (both sides) must be uploaded. Any registration that does not include this copy will not be accepted.
3) Participants are not allowed to register for more than one medal in the same cycle.
4) All submitted documents used as evidence of achievements must be dated within the last two years of the cycle closing date (1st May).
5) Certificates or documents that have already been used and awarded in previous cycles cannot be reused.
6) All required hours in the Skills section must be completed in a single skill.
7) All required hours in the Fitness & Wellbeing Activity section must be completed in a single sport.
8) Participants may reapply only by registering for a higher-level medal, with new supporting certificates for all sections.
9) In case of winning the Gold Medal, participants may only reapply for the Gold Medal after a period of two years.
10) If the participant wishes to prove the Skills section through self-learning, a video between 5 to 10 minutes must be attached, showing how the skill was acquired and demonstrating some practices of the skill (please see award manual).
11) Participants must provide evidence of completing the required hours in through providers who meet the following conditions: (not applicable to Skills category)
– Must be licensed in the United Arab Emirates.
– Must issue official certificates, including the number of training hours.
12) For certain sections that may involve risk, such as the Adventure section, responsibility for safety lies with the provider and the participant, and the Award disclaims any liability.
13) Further rules of application, as outlined in the Award Manual (Second Edition), must be adhered to.

Additional Provisions Governing Participation
1) All participation must align with the values and objectives of the Award and must not conflict with the laws and regulations of the United Arab Emirates.
2) Final approval of participant applications may be subject to an application audit, whereby participants and/or coordinators may have to provide further information regarding the submitted category activities. The Award reserves the right to approve or reject applications on the basis of this audit.
3) If any false information or documents are found to have been submitted, the Award has the right to cancel the registration or withdraw the award application.
4) The registered email address and phone number are considered the official means of communication, and participants are responsible for following up on notifications and updates.
5) Participants and their guardians (if under 18 years old) agree to the use of submitted photos, videos, and materials for media and promotional purposes related to the Award.
6) Participants must maintain positive conduct and respect toward all parties throughout their participation. The Award reserves the right to disqualify participants in case of misconduct.
